Gold Award

Hello, I'm Destiny Serna, and I'm a girl scout for the Girl Central California South. I'm a senior in high school and Ambassador for my girl scout troop. I hold the position of girl scout representative for the Central California south. One of the highest awards a girl scout can earn is a gold award. This brings me to my gold award project. My Gold Award project aims to address the issue of providing support to people who are facing addiction. My gold award wants to help the organization called Teen Challenge, which offers treatment and support to these people. I want to help provide bedding, bed frames, and mattresses to Shafter Teen Challenge. This organization helps recovering drug addicts and alcoholics find direction and purpose in life. Teen Challenge is an organization that is a free program for many people seeking help. These young adults attend Teen Challenge to become clean. However, a lot of the time, organizations like Teen Challenge need donations to provide bedding for new incomers who are joining Teen Challenge. According to the Teen Challenge website, "Teen Challenge is a non-profit organization that relies entirely on the generous donations, funding and volunteer efforts of both individuals and organizations throughout our communities in order to offer services at no cost to the individual." As You can see, Teen challenge relies heavily on the support of the community. That's what leads me to my gold award idea, and that's being able to support these people who are struggling with addiction with new beds, in that every day, they wake up with a fresh start. I plan to get help from the community in order to spread awareness about donations that Teen Challenge in Shafter needs.
